Posted By: Hija Chang on October 21, 2019 The Center for Interdisciplinary Research on AIDS (CIRA) at Yale University currently has two fellowship programs seeking new applicants. Yale AIDS Prevention Training Program CIRA is offering full time, two-year Post Doctoral Fellowships for scholars with a PhD, MD, and/or JD degrees. The Post Doctoral Fellowship provides a unique focus on professional development, setting clear expectations for research productivity, the establishment of a program of research, and the creation of professional identity in preparation for an academic career. Fellows are supported and expected to write articles for publications and prepare an extramural grant application in an HIV related area. Trained within CIRA, fellows work closely with a research mentor from among the Center's primary training faculty. Training Program activities include: • Professional Development • Research in Progress • Grant Writing • Social media use • Scientific writing retreat • Research skills • Overview of theoretical models, study designs, and analytic approaches in HIV prevention research • Diversity and inclusion Review of applications begins on December 2, 2019. Research Education Institute for Diverse Scholars (REIDS) The REIDS Fellowship focuses on under-represented scholars in HIV research who are at the post doctoral stage or early career faculty. Recognizing the importance of quality mentorship and access to practical experience in setting the trajectory for productivity and success of new investigators, scholars attend a 4 week Summer Institute at Yale and online monthly meetings throughout the year focused on research education, training, professional development and mentoring that addresses structural and individual barriers to advancement of underrepresented groups in community based implementation science research to reduce and prevent HIV. During the 2 year fellowship, all Scholars will: • Participate in two consecutive Summer Institutes; • Participate in online monthly fellowship meetings; • Receive sustained mentorship and applied learning experiences; • Be supported to write collaborative HIV proposals; and • Be able to apply for up to $20,000 in pilot funding for projects that address one of the several HIV inequities experienced within communities of color. Fellows receive money for travel to New Haven; a stipend for living expenses (Fellows who are funded through an NIH or Foundation institutional training grants are not eligible for the stipend but may receive a per diem food allowance); and, fully subsidized accommodations.
