The Ithaca College Education Department (located in Ithaca, NY) invites applications for the position of Department Chair and Associate Professor. This full-time position begins August 16, 2020 (or earlier in the summer, if desired). Our new chair will be creative, possess a deep commitment to diversity, equity and innovative practice in education, and will articulate a well-informed vision for high quality teacher education. The position entails leadership of a growing department that offers undergraduate degrees in secondary education and art education K-12, and masters in secondary, childhood and agriculture education, as well as a robust education studies minor. As a department, we seek a leader who values collaboration, community, and the professional development of all department members. We are seeking outstanding candidates with a demonstrated commitment to supporting, empowering and retaining members of underrepresented groups. Responsibilities include coordinating curricular offerings; directing the undergraduate major and supporting the departmental coordinator of the minor; maintaining and developing community outreach and partnership programs; liaising with other department chairs and campus departments with teacher-education programs; overseeing budget, staffing, and accreditation; and creating an inclusive and affirming culture for faculty, students and staff. We seek a colleague with solid administrative, research and teaching experience who will lead the department and offer courses relevant to our mission and programs. The departmental chair leads with the chair of graduate studies in education, and is supported by the college’s placement, teacher certification and accreditation officers, who are administratively housed in the department.
