Introducing HBCU Connect's Featured Student: Zavian "Mister Tuskegee" Bell

Introducing HBCU Connect
Posted By: Elynor Moss on December 15, 2019

Name: Zavian Bell
HBCU: Tuskegee University
Graduation Year: 2021
Major: Communications
College Organizations/Sports: The 22nd Mister Tuskegee; Marching Crimson Piper Marching Band (Trumpet); Tuskegee Men's Track and Field (Hurdler)

What led you to the decision to attend Tuskegee University?
I decided to come to my HBCU because it allowed to showcase my many talents as an undergraduate student and it was the farthest from my old home in New Jersey.

What classes are your favorite and why?
I don't necessarily have a favorite class. I used to love math, but as a Communications major, I strayed further and further from that subject.

What is the biggest misconception people have about you?
That I am not allowed to have emotions too. I'm usually joyous, free-spirited, and social, but I also have my off days. Sometimes I just want to be left alone. Sometimes I'm really angry or upset at the moment.

I go through issues like everybody else; my life isn't all the way together; and just like you, I get lonely too.

What moment has been the biggest confidence booster during your college journey?
The biggest confidence booster during my collegiate years was winning the crown of Mister Freshman during the 2016-17 school year. It was my introduction to a promising future at this illustrious Institution.

What do you do to stay motivated to reach your graduation goal?
I like to keep myself busy and entertained. My life has always been nonstop, so I really don't know how to go somewhere and sit down.

What career will you pursue after graduation?
I would love to someday become a Radio/Television personality.

What words of advice can you share with current college students?
Never forget who you and where you came from. We all have humble beginnings and it is okay to BE YOURSELF! Never change who you are in order to win a title, or be accepted by a certain social group.
