Want to Study Abroad? 5 Reasons to Choose Canada
|
Posted By: Katie Gorden on December 19, 2019 Every year, students looking to study abroad must choose from a long list of possible countries. Though it’s one of the largest countries in the world, Canada has a surprisingly understated reputation as a study abroad destination. However, its economy, social climate, and schools can make it a perfect place for foreign students to receive a world-class education. For those who still need some convincing, here are five reasons why students should choose to study in the Great White North. 1. Welcoming to International StudentsOne of the biggest advantages of choosing to study in Canada is that international students can work while they’re in the country on a visa. Students attending school full-time for at least one year automatically qualify for a work permit, which allows them to work part-time during the academic term and full-time during summers. Canada also allows international students to apply for permanent residency after just six months. These policies can make life easier for visiting students, especially compared to study abroad programs in other countries. 2. Has Some of the Best Schools in the WorldCanada is home to some of the world’s top colleges and universities. The University of Toronto, University of British Columbia, and McGill University rank at #18, #30, and #49 respectively in USNews.com’s list of Best Global Universities. And that’s just the beginning! Many of the schools in Canada are publicly funded and accredited, so students can receive a very good education no matter which school they choose. 3. English is the Official LanguageOne of the biggest difficulties for international students has to be the language barrier in their new country. Luckily, Canada’s official language is English, one of the most widely-spoken languages in the world. Additionally, Canada’s other official language is French, and many of its people and institutions are bilingual. 4. Is a First World CountryCanadians enjoy a very high standard of living. The country has a stable economy, low crime, and clean public spaces, all of which contribute to a life free of many hardships that plague developing countries. Life expectancy in Canada is 80 for men and 84 for women, so many residents enjoy long, happy lives in this country. 5. Has Free or Subsidized HealthcareInternational students can receive free healthcare in most provinces. If they can’t be covered for free, students can also purchase very cheap health insurance. Canada’s socialized healthcare makes it possible for every resident to have access to quality medical care. Canada is famous for its friendly people and breathtaking mountains. It’s also an excellent place to get an education. Students considering a study abroad program should choose Canada for its social and economic benefits. With the beautiful landscape, top-ranked schools, and access to public healthcare, Canada has the potential to be one of the most fulfilling and safest places to be a student.
