About The Position: The Department of English invites applications for a full-time, tenure track position in American Literature, with specialization in the nineteenth century, and a view toward expanding the traditional canon to include important and previously marginalized writers and perspectives, to begin August 2020. Competence/interest in specialized genre/topics/authors within this period is expected. Teaching responsibilities include foundational courses in literary study, upper-level courses for majors, composition courses, and general education literature courses for non-majors. The successful candidate will be committed to excellence in teaching, research and service in an institution dedicated primarily to undergraduate education and teacher training. It is expected that the person appointed to this role will demonstrate an understanding of and sensitivity to diversity and gender issues, as SUNY Plattsburgh is committed to ensuring that its graduates are educated to succeed in an increasingly complex, multicultural, and interdependent world. Therefore, we value faculty who can bring expertise in those areas. The successful candidate may be asked to teach courses in a distance learning format.
