An established songstress, Cox has scaled the R&B and pop charts with six top 20 Billboard magazine R&B singles and an impressive thirteen No. 1 hits on Billboard’s Hot Dance Club Play Chart. In addition to creating musical hits across the R&B, Pop, Jazz, and Dance genres, Cox has established herself as a multi-talented artist carving out her place within the worlds of Broadway, television, film, and fashion. The quadruple-threat artist returns to her musical roots with the release of her new single “Easy Way.” An anthem for those who have lived the ups and downs of a relationship but understand how those same challenges reinforce the reality that with any true, worthwhile, and long-lasting love, there is never an easy way. Written by hit-maker Rico Love and produced by Rico and D’Town, “Easy Way” is catching fire among fans on both digital and streaming sites. Currently working on her seventh album, scheduled for release in 2020, Cox says she is overwhelmed with the responses she has received on the new single. “My purpose has always been to speak about commitment and unconditional love,” she explains. “My mission is not to define it but rather to help one understand that self-love is where the journey begins. I don’t think people consider that. I find that people fantasize about love but don’t understand that if you want something to work, you have to fight for it, and you have to fight for it daily. I believe that’s why ‘Easy Way’ resonates with so many people.” Cox’s early career began while singing with Celine Dion. Cox was discovered by the renowned music executive Clive Davis and was instantly signed to Arista Records. Known for her global hit “Nobody’s Supposed To Be Here” from her double-platinum sophomore album, One Wish, the mega-hit single held the record for being the longest-running No.1 R&B single, at 14 consecutive weeks, and earned her the Billboard Music Award nomination for R&B Single of the Year. Simultaneously, “Nobody’s Supposed To Be Here” peaked at No. 2 for eight consecutive weeks on the Billboard Hot 100 chart. Her second single from the album, “We Can’t Be Friends,” also went to No. 1 on Billboard’s singles chart. She has also performed with Rod Stewart, opera star Andrea Bocelli and toured with mega-producer David Foster and Cyndi Lauper and Sarah McLachlan. She was invited to perform for former First Lady Michelle Obama and President Obama. In 2000, Cox collaborated with her friend Whitney Houston to record the duet “Same Script, Different Cast” for Houston’s Greatest Hits project. She is featured on the soundtrack of Disney’s 2019 holiday movie, Noelle, on “Gimme Some Christmas.” Over the years, Cox has worked behind the scenes, recording music for several film soundtracks, including Akeelah and the Bee, Hotel Rwanda, Kingdom Come, Money Talks, A Good Man is Hard To Find, and Tyler Perry’s Meet the Browns. As an actress, Cox was last seen as Rachel Marron in the sold-out national tour, THE BODYGUARD: THE MUSICAL . She has continued her work on screen and stage in several key roles, including the voice of Whitney Houston in Lifetime’s biopic Whitney directed by Angela Bassett. Cox received rave reviews in media outlets, including the New York Times, The Hollywood Reporter, Variety, Newsday, the Boston Globe,ESSENCE and numerous others.Cox’s other stage works include leading roles in the 2016 Asolo Repertory Theatre musical production JOSEPHINE In 2013, she co-starred as Lucy in Frank Wildhorn and Steve Cuden’s Broadway musical JEKYLL & HYDE In 2004, Cox made her Broadway debut in the lead role of Elton John’s and Tim Rice’s Broadway musical,AIDA .. www.DeborahCox.com If you enjoyed this article, Join HBCU CONNECT today for similar content and opportunities via email! |
