Oakwood Students Supply Hand Sanitizer During Shortage
|
Posted By: How May I Help You NC on April 09, 2020 Before leaving Oakwood's campus three weeks ago, students in Associate Professor Steven Lai Hing's research class in the Department of Chemistry suspended their semester projects and threw themselves into executing a WHO (World Health Organization) protocol for making hand sanitizer. Using aloe plants from Oakwood Farms and isopropyl alcohol, along with a couple other additives, they made two batches of bacteria-killing hand sanitizers, one at 68% alcohol and one at 84%. Sanitizer was given to the Oakwood University Child Development Lab, and the other bottle was used by students in the classes and laboratories in the Chemistry Department. Thanks go to those Oakwood students who interrupted their schedule to fill a need in their Oakwood community.
