Essential Setup Materials for Starting in Professional Woodworking

From the smell of sawdust to the feel of the wood grain against their fingers, woodworkers know that there is always something inspiring about starting that next project. When a project is done, this truly brings a sense of accomplishment. This is because the work they do is both creative and technical in nature. The real magic of woodworking is in the tools and materials being used and the individual working with them. The following are essential materials that every beginning professional woodworker should have in their shop. Wood and AccessoriesIt stands to reason that if a person is going to get into professional wood working, they are going to need a wide variety of different types of wood to work with in their shop. Wood can be thick, hard, soft and even comes in varying sized boards and sheets. It is important to have nails, screws, wood glue, metal handles and a variety of other attachments for use in projects when constructing anything from benches to cabinets made with wood. A RouterIf you want to be able to do interesting things with wood from cutting grooves to hollowing out a solid wooden block, then a router will be a useful tool for helping you do this kind of work. Typical routers are either hand held or table top style routers. The router uses different shaped bits to achieve various results. It is a good idea to have a decent variety of bits to play around with when doing projects. A Random Orbital SanderWhen it comes to making surfaces smooth, there is nothing like a sander to accomplish this goal. One of the best kind of sanders to use starting out is a random orbital sander. Because the sanding approach is more random, it tends to produce a nicer surface that looks more natural to the eye. Additionally, a six inch sander gives you more sanding area when working on a big project. Cutting and Shaping ToolsIt stands to reason that cutting and shaping wood are basic functions every woodworker needs to be able to perform. This means that a shop should have hand saws, a quality circular saw, a jig saw, a band saw and even a spindle moulder machine with custom made moulding blades. With such a wide variety of essential cutting tools, a beginning professional woodworking shop will have the means to carry out a vast array of different project types. There are a great number of different tools and materials needed for a professional woodworking career. Every project will present unique challenges, and require different materials and tools to reach completion. However, people interested in working with wood should try to assess the kinds of projects they will be doing so as to have the most relevant tools and materials on hand for the tasks they will need to perform.
