Alabama State University's Ross Joins HBCU President's Roundtable via FCC Commissioner Starks!

Ross Jr. on Monday (May 4) at Noon (CST) as he is one of a select group of national university presidents who are part of FCC Commissioner Geoffrey Starks' Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCUs) Presidents’ virtual Roundtable, titled "The State of Connectivity in the Age of the COVID-19 Pandemic." President Ross will join Commissioner Starks’ nationally broadcast 'virtual' panel to discuss the connectivity needs of students, faculty, and staff at HBCUs during this time of social-distancing and quarantine. PURPOSE OF THE FCC'S HBCU ROUNDTABLE. All members of the panel, led by Commissioner Starks, understand the need and urgency for our schools, students and faculty to remain connected. Today, distance learning is more important than ever as schools have turned to it in earnest to protect the health of students and all university employees. In order to facilitate distance learning, HBCUs across the country have found creative solutions to address broadband connectivity for their students and employees who live in all areas of the United States. HBCU'S MORE IMPORTANT THAN EVER Starks, ASU's Ross and all of the panelists know and understand that HBCUs play a critical role in our nation, and these institutions must have the support of all branches of government to keep both America's HBCUs and the 'ship of state' viable, relevant and successful. “I applaud Commissioner Starks for convening this important and relevant discussion centering on how the nation’s HBCUs are expanding online learning and finding creative solutions to address Internet connectivity issues for faculty, staff and students in the wake of the Coronavirus pandemic,” Ross said. PARTICIPANTS IN THE ROUNDTABLE This event will feature special remarks from U.S. Representative Alma Adams (NC-12), U.S. Representative G.K. Butterfield (NC-01) and convene presidents and leadership from various HBCUs from across the nation. The panel discussion will be moderated by David Johns, executive director of the National Black Justice Coalition and former executive director of the White House Initiative on Educational Excellence for African-Americans. The hour-long event will be live streamed at www.fcc.gov/live. The event's confirmed panelists include: * Dr. Quinton T.
