HBCU CONNECT CEO Will Moss Uses Software Engineering Background to Launch New Design for Black Social Networking Website

HBCU CONNECT CEO Will Moss Uses Software Engineering Background to Launch New Design for Black Social Networking Website
Posted By: Will Moss on June 05, 2020

With the constantly evolving and changing world of technology, the internet and the technologies used to power the internet, have changed dramatically since the last iteration of HBCUConnect.com was launched back in 2014.

CEO, and Founder of HBCUConnect.com, Will Moss, has decided to take his focus off of the on going hustle and bustle of business operations related to running a successful diversity focused technology and recruitment company, and place the focus back on the technology that started it all.

Moss, a 1995 graduate of Historically Black College/University (HBCU), Hampton University, majored in Computer Science and learned how to write software at the university and in Corporate America.

HBCUConnect.com was launched in 2004 after Moss and Shawn Starks, a fellow HBCU graduate, started pre-cursor, HBCU-CENTRAL.COM in 1999. At the time, there was only one other social network online serving African Americans, but HBCU CONNECT was the first site focusing on college students and graduates. Later on, Facebook and LinkedIn would launch to serve a similar purpose but for a wide non-diverse audience.

With several years of experience in Corporate America and a degree in Computer Science, Moss decided to jump out of the comfort of the corporate job and focus full-time on HBCUConnect.com, taking the site from roughly 100,000 members to over 1.4 million members nationwide.

The company has since attracted corporate partners such as Ford, Microsoft, Amazon and thousands of other companies looking to connect with HBCU students and graduates, taking Moss away from his focus on technology and into the world of Marketing, Advertising and Recruitment.

With years of success helping corporations connect with HBCU talent, the focus swayed away from the core technology and web functionality and the popular social network is long over due for a mobile friendly refresh, which Moss is tackling full steam ahead.

"I almost feel guilty for not having the website reflect the user friendly features that most users expect when accessing the site from a mobile device or tablet. But I think users will be pleasantly surprised when we officially relaunch the website this summer. I am very, very proud of the new design and functionality we are rolling out!"

If you have not already signed up as a member of HBCUConnect.com, be sure to create an account so that you can take advantage of the social networking capabilities the site has to offer as well as the 'connect' for career opportunities for Black Students and Professionals.
