The police killings from Minneapolis to New York, George Floyd to Eric Garner to Brianna Taylor to Sandra Bland and the list goes on... has become too much for any of us to bear. But it's not enough. IF you listen to the song by this duo, KILL'N Season (TRANSITIONS) you'll hear their view on the issues at hand In the words Elyte, rapping alongside Verse the Legend, "In order to find hate like this you have to dig way down... what type of man would smoke a 12 year old kid on a playground?" What is referencing is Tamir Rice, victim of police drive-by shooting in Cleveland Ohio in 2014 while playing with a toy gun. "Music is the voice of the unheard, It's time for change." The ironic thing is that these two recorded the song in 2015 in memory of Eric Garner, a police homicide victim in New York City. Verse the Legend, being the son of a Virginia State Delegate pushing the resolution to declare racism a public health crisis, has the foresight to say exactly what it is. He is quote as saying "They're killing over ambition... killing over a vision. Killing over a feeling like killing is their religion." Verse the Legend went on to say, "It's the TRANSITION of the human psyche that we're all seeing. Everyone can feel the social shift going on. Some resist it - some accept it. It is killing season for both the lion and the gazelle. The question you have to ask yourself is.... which one are you?"
