5 High-Paying Health Careers That You Should Consider

5 High-Paying Health Careers That You Should Consider
Posted By: Rayanne Morriss on June 12, 2020

If you want to work in the healthcare field, you’ll be pleased to know that there are many highly lucrative positions available that will give you the chance to help others who are in need. There are more positions available than you've likely realized, and learning about the different options will help you choose a path that best suits your interests. Any of these five high-paying health careers may be the right fit for you.

Anesthesiologist

You’ll be administering medicine that numbs pain locally or puts patients to sleep entirely when you work as an anesthesiologist. These specialists usually work in hospitals when patients are undergoing surgeries or other invasive medical procedures, but some anesthesiologists are hired to work in pain centers to provide numbing medicine to people who suffer from chronic pain. According to WebMD, you should expect to study for a bachelor’s degree before entering medical school to work toward a Doctor of Medicine (MD) or Doctor of Osteopathy (DO) degree if you want to pursue this career. A one-year internship and three-year hospital residency will also need to be completed to become an anesthesiologist.

Pharmacist

A pharmacist is responsible for issuing doctor-prescribed medications to patients. In this position, you may get the chance to work in a pharmacy that’s located inside of a grocery store, or you could work in a pharmacy that’s housed inside of a hospital. You’ll need to know about the different types of medications, how to take them, and their possible side effects so that you can explain the correct information to patients. It’s also important to keep track of medications that could be harmful when taken with other medications that a patient is currently taking. You’ll need to earn a Doctor of Pharmacy (PharmD) degree after earning a bachelor’s or an associate degree and complete the appropriate internship and additional training to become a pharmacist.

Dentist

Dentists are doctors who specialize in treating conditions that involve the teeth and gums and helping patients maintain good oral health.

You can choose to work as a dentist in Palmdale CA or your particular locale and use state-of-the-art technology to give each patient the best treatment possible. Some of the main responsibilities of a dentist include taking x-rays, filling cavities and treating gum disease. You can also perform oral cancer screenings to ensure optimal dental health for your patients. Oral surgery can additionally be performed if you have the right training. It’s best to earn a bachelor’s degree in a science- or medical-related field before taking the Dental Admissions Test (DAT) to enter a dental school that’s accredited by the American Dental Association (ADA). You can then choose to study for a Doctor of Dental Medicine (DMD) or Doctor of Dental Surgery (DDS) degree.

Podiatrist

As a podiatrist, you’ll be treating foot conditions that can make walking difficult and cause other problems for patients. People will come to you to have their foot conditions diagnosed and treated with surgery, special foot devices, or other therapies to help alleviate pain and improve mobility. It’s important to learn all the bones and other anatomical features of the human foot so that you can provide the most comprehensive care possible. A career as a podiatrist requires a Doctor of Podiatric Medicine (DPM) degree which should be obtained from an accredited school along with a license from your state if you want to work in this position. Residency training usually lasts for 36 months.

Medical and Health Services Manager

If you’d rather be in a clerical position instead of treating patients while still having the chance to work in the medical field, becoming a medical and health services manager can be an excellent option. You’ll be responsible for supervising a medical department and coordinating patient care so that everything can stay better organized and run more efficiently. You’ll also need to manage patient information and protect the confidential details that are in each patient’s medical record. It’s best to earn a bachelor’s degree at minimum or obtain a master’s degree and have experience working as a manager in a clinical setting before applying for this position.

These health care positions can be beneficial for yourself and society. If you’re looking for something with job stability and an excellent salary, these medical careers may be to your liking.
