Middle and High School Students Compete in Science Trivia Competition, Hosted By Coppin State University

Middle and High School Students Compete in Science Trivia Competition, Hosted By Coppin State University
Posted By: Reginald Culpepper on August 25, 2020

Middle and high school students from around the world are expected to compete in Coppin State University’s (CSU) virtual STEM Day Science Trivia competition, where top students are awarded, but the biggest prize is the act of inspiring tomorrow’s scientists, on August 28, 1 p.m. to 4 p.m.

Sponsored by Constellation, an Exelon Company and CSU’s Center for Nanotechnology, this year’s annual event will be virtual, due to the COVID-19 pandemic. School students from around the globe who are interested in the STEM fields (Science, Technology, Engineering and Math) will participate in online science trivia and oral presentations on renewable energy (bio fuel, fuel cells, solar, wind, hydrogen and hydroelectric energy) and nanotechnology (silver, gold, iron nanoparticles and their applications).

In the U.S., students will participate from Maryland, Georgia, Virginia, Massachusetts, Arkansas and New York City. But the list is still growing, according CSU Nanotechnology department officials. Countries represented so far include the USA, Canada, Finland, England, India, Malaysia, Bangladesh and Japan.

“This is not only fun for the students, it also motivates, encourages and inspires these young people to change tomorrow’s world as future scientists,” said Dr. Jamal Uddin, CSU’s founding director of the Center for Nanotechnology.

Prizes to be awarded to 1st, 2nd and 3rd positions. All attending students will be provided certificates of participation.

There’s still time for students and teams to enter. Registration is free. Interested students, faculty, scientist, parents should register at https://www.coppin.edu/stemday
