Xavier University of Louisiana's Angela Charles-Alfred and Lailaa Bashir repeated as ITA Cup NAIA doubles champion with a 3-6, 7-6 (7-5) 6-4 victory against Georgia Gwinnett's second-seeded Maria Genovese amd Eva Siska.

Earlier Sunday, Bashir lost 6-2, 7-6 (7-0) to top-seeded Genovese in the singles final.

The doubles victory was the 17th in a row for Charles-Alfred and Bashir, both left-handers. They beat Genovese in the ITA Cup NAIA final for the second straight year. In 2019 Charles-Alfred and Bashir trailed 4-1 before winning 6-4, 6-4 victory against Genovese and Madeline Bosnjak.

Bashir, a sophomore, is 14-1 this fall, winning all seven of her doubles matches and 7-of-8 singles matches. Her two-season XULA combined record is 60-5.

Bashir also earned the ITA Cup's James O'Hara Sargent Sportsmanship Award, which is given to singles main-draw finalists who display outstanding sportsmanship and exemplify the spirit of college tennis during the course of the ITA Cup.

Genovese was No. 2 in the end-of-season ITA singles rankings of 2019-20, but in doubles she's 0-3 in her career against Charles-Alfred and Bashir. Genovese and Bosnjak also lost to Charles-Alfred and Bashir in a 2019 ITA regional final.
