Delaware State University Crowns Christian Chapman and Ashlee Davis as the 2020-2021 Mr. and Miss DSU
Posted By: Reginald Culpepper on October 28, 2020

While Delaware State University postponed the rest of its Homecoming events until the spring due to the current COVID-19 restrictions, the Coronation Ceremony for this year’s Mr. and Miss DSU took place this weekend.

The University held an Oct. 25 Coronation Ceremony for the crowning of Mr. DSU Christian J. Chapman and Miss DSU Ashlee M. Davis – the 2020-2021 Del State King and Queen.

Originally scheduled to be held outdoors at Alumni Stadium, rain forced the invitation-only gathering to move indoor to the MLK Jr. Student Center parlors.

Mr. DSU Christian J. Chapman is a senior Mass Communications major from Bronx, N.Y. His focus is on the concentration of Radio, TV and Film, and his aspiration is to become a sport commentator or an actor.

Mr. Chapman ran on the platform “Breaking the Label.” He said that he wanted his fellow students to know that they can be more than society expects them to be. “That they can embrace who they are against all expectations,”

A consistent Dean’s List student during his undergraduate journey, Mr. Chapman has been a member of the Men’s Council, Men’s of Color Alliance and served as a Resident Assistant at Medgar Evers Hall.

The motivational phrase that guides Mr. Chapman is “I am my No. 1 fan, I am my No. 1 critic, and I am my only competition.”

Miss DSU Ashlee M. Davis is a Mass Communication major from Orange, N.J. While her undergraduate focus is on Public Relations, her future aspiration to go to law school and become an attorney specializing in civil cases.

Ms. Davis ran on the platform “Reclaiming Our Throne.” She said it was to bring awareness to everything going on in society such as human trafficking, COVID-19 and voting. “My platform is based on bringing awareness to all of the relevant things that are happening in society.”

She has been listed on the President and Dean’s Lists, and has formerly served as Miss Freshman, Miss Sophomore and Student Government Association Vice President. The Thurgood Marshall College Fund Scholar has been a member of Educated Ladies Igniting in True Essence and LIFT.

One of the motivational phrases that guides Ms. Davis is “The only limit to the height of your achievement is the reach of your dreams and your willingness to work hard for them.”

Mr. Chapman and Ms. Davis were selected by their campus peers last spring during the first-ever virtual student elections.
