HBCU Jackson State Set to Receive Half a Million Dollars from Professional Golf Hall of Famer, Phil Mickelson!
Posted By: Kennedy Williams on November 24, 2020 Jackson State University finds themselves on the receiving end of yet another big gesture from a big-time sports figure. After football legend, Deion Sanders signed on as the JSU head football coach earlier this year, there has been a lot of buzz surrounding the Florida HBCU. There has been a trend of top recruits de-committing from predominately white Division I schools and deciding to become a JSU Tiger. Jackson State will benefit from another big sports move, but this time the game is golf. World Golf Hall of Famer Phil Mickelson is donating $500,000 to the school, and that is just the beginning. Mickelson is a participant in The Match: Champions for change event this Friday in Arizona and selected Jackson State to benefit from his performance. Depending on the hole, Mickelson’s hole in one can mean $100,000 or even $2.5 million in additional donations to the school. Superstar athletes like Steph Curry, Peyton Manning, and Charles Barkley will also be participants in Friday’s event and have all chosen to donate to HBCUs. Be sure to tune in to the Champions for Change event this Friday at 2 pm on TNT. If you enjoyed this article, Join HBCU CONNECT today for similar content and opportunities via email! |
