PGA Tour Pledges to Donate Half A Million Dollars to HBCUs!

Posted By: Kennedy Williams on December 07, 2020 The Professional Golfers' Association of America is showing love to HBCUs around the country in a major way! Back in September, PGA Tour commissioner Jay Monahan promised to ensure that the organization would be "part of the solution" when it comes to fighting social injustice and racial inequality. Part of this effort includes donating $500,000 to five HBCUs, including $100,000 to support the men's and women's golf teams at Prairie View A&M. Prairie View is among the select HBCUs to honor the grandfather of Tour player Cameron Champ, who always wanted to attend the Texas HBCU. Just last month, Champ donated $40,000 on his own to establish two golf scholarships in his grandfather's name. The PGA also awarded $100,000 donations to the golf teams at Delaware State, Tennessee State, Wilberforce University, and Bowie State's Golf Classic, a fundraiser that contributes to the school's athletic department. This generous act comes off of the heels of The Match: Champions for Change golf event that featured golf star Phil Mickelson, Basketball stars Charles Barkley and Stephen Curry, and Football star Peyton Manning.
