HBCU Alum Somalia Uses New Music to Promote Honor Frontline Workers During Pandemic and Promote Voting

Posted By: Taronda Gibbons on December 10, 2020 Spelman alumnae and HBCU graduate, Somalia, who is also an Atlanta-based R&B singer and songwriter that is using her music to provide peace and healing during the trying times of the pandemic. Lending her talent for philanthropic endeavors, she has performed at shows to raise funds for the National Alliance on Mental Illness (NAMI) National Day of Hope and to honor frontline workers for the Fulton County Peaceful Performances for the Pandemic. In a push to inspire voters in Georgia, she performed at voting sites to keep people encouraged as they waited in long lines. Recently releasing her EP “Never Enough Time,” following her single “Risk It All,” Somalia’s music has upbeat tempos that music lovers are sure to enjoy, especially during this pandemic. Though she’s an Indie artist, Somalia is making a name for herself as she has performed at over 180 shows across the world and for stars such as Kelly Price and KeKe Wyatt. Some of her most recent performances include the Atlanta Beltline Art on the Beltline Exhibition, National Black Arts Wine Down Wednesday, and Taste of Soul Atlanta. This summer she was one of the winners of comedian Loni Love's Quarantine Talent Show, which garnered more than 10,000 YouTube views during her appearance. She was also was nominated for 2020 National Black Arts Horizon Award for songwriting. Due to the pandemic, Somalia has lost most of her previously planned in-person gigs but has channeled her energy into creating her EP and music for people to get through any rough times they may be experiencing.
