XULA Men's Basketball Team Remains in NAIA Top 25

XULA Men
Posted By: Kennedy Williams on December 16, 2020

Xavier University of Louisiana, winner of two of its first three games this season, moved from 20th to 23rd Wednesday in the NAIA men's basketball coaches poll.

It's the first time since 2015-16 that the XULA men are in the top 25 in each of the first two polls of a season. It's XULA's ninth consecutive top-25 appearance, its longest streak since 55 consecutive polls from Dec. 12, 2011-Jan. 26, 2016.

XULA has not played since a 91-80 loss Nov. 7 at city rival Loyola — the Wolf Pack climbed from 16th to ninth in the NAIA rankings — and XULA will resume its schedule in early January.

XULA opened the season with a pair of home victories: 79-58 against Southeastern Baptist on Oct. 21 and 76-63 against William Carey on Nov. 2.

Indiana Wesleyan — 13-0 and the NAIA leader in victories this season — received 18-of-21 first-place votes to climb from third to No. 1 in the poll. The Wildcats replaced Georgetown (Ky.), which fell to sixth.

XULA is one of two Gulf Coast Athletic Conference teams in the top 25. Talladega (8-1) is No. 17, its highest ranking since 13th on Nov. 27, 2019. GCAC and city rival Dillard is among "others receiving votes" for the seventh consecutive time and in 41st place. Forty-six teams received votes.
