Nationwide to Sponsor The Classic for Columbus, A Football Showdown Between Central State and Kentucky State

Nationwide to Sponsor The Classic for Columbus, A Football Showdown Between Central State and Kentucky State
Posted By: Kennedy Williams on March 18, 2021

Nationwide is aiding the return of HBCU Division II SIAC football in a major way. The Columbus, OH-based insurance company is hosting and sponsoring “Classic for Columbus,” a four-day event meant to celebrate HBCU culture and football. The Columbus festival is expected to bring in $10 million into the city and draw around 20,000 people. Over the course of the four days, attendees will be able to participate in events centered around Black wealth, financial literacy, health, wellness, and more. There will even be a college and career fair for high school students looking to attend an HBCU. All of these events will lead up to the main event: the football game between rivals Central State University and Kentucky State University.

This family-friendly event will be the first of its kind in the city of Columbus, and Nationwide is honored to be the one to host the inaugural celebration of HBCUs. In a press release, Nationwide’s chief marketing officer, Ramon Jones, said, “Nationwide has a long history of promoting opportunity, scholarship, and empowerment of diverse communities across the country. As a presenting sponsor of the inaugural Classic for Columbus in our hometown, we invite others to join us in supporting this celebration of educational and cultural programs, as well as this exciting HBCU rivalry football game.”

John Pace, the CEO of the event, shared his excitement about Nationwide’s support behind the classic and encouraged other businesses to get involved saying, “Events and programs cannot operate without funding and support. Oftentimes, organizations are reluctant to support an event until they see it, kick the tires. I am just so happy and honored that Nationwide has deemed Classic for Columbus presented by Nationwide worthy of support.”

The Classic for Columbus is scheduled to take place from Aug. 25th-29th.

As an insurance company, Nationwide is known for working hard every day to meet the insurance and financial needs of its customers at every stage of life. Through a collaboration with HBCU Connect, Nationwide is offering a free quote to our members through this link . We are thrilled that Nationwide is showing its support to our beloved HBCUs and commend them for being committed to promoting the empowerment of diverse communities across the country.
