Goldman Sachs Commits Over $10 BILLION in Investments to Impact the Lives of 1 Million Black Women!

Goldman Sachs Commits Over $10 BILLION in Investments to Impact the Lives of 1 Million Black Women!
Posted By: Kennedy Williams on March 19, 2021

Goldman Sachs is stepping up and showing support for Black women in a major way! The investment banking company just announced via press release that it would be committing more than $10 billion over the next decade to “address the dual disproportionate gender and racial biases that Black women have faced for generations, which have only been exacerbated by the pandemic.”

Launched in partnership with Black-women-led organizations, the initiative is called One Million Black Women, which is named after the goal Goldman Sachs has set out to accomplish through this movement: impacting the lives of at least one million Black women by 2030. Through this initiative, Goldman Sachs will be investing more than $10 billion in direct investment capital and $100 million in philanthropic capital through direct investments and grants to Black women and Black-women-led organizations.

“This initiative is transformational,” said Melanie Campbell, Convener of the Black Women’s Roundtable and President and CEO of the National Coalition on Black Civic Participation, a partner with Goldman Sachs on the program.

“What Goldman Sachs is doing has the potential to materially impact the lives of Black women, their families, and communities across the country.”

In the press release announcing the big news, Goldman Sachs said that it has done the research and “joined with partner organizations on listening sessions to understand the barriers to opportunity Black women face and how targeted investments can address these barriers.” The initiative is being shaped by Black women within the company, alumna of the 10,000 Small Businesses program, and partnerships with Black women organizations including Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc., Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc., Zeta Phi Beta Sorority, Inc., Sigma Gamma Rho Sorority, Inc., National Council of Negro Women, Power Rising, Black Women’s Roundtable and the National Coalition on Black Civic Participation, Walker’s Legacy Foundation, Sistahs in Business Expo, and The Links, Inc.

According to Margaret Anadu, Global Head of Sustainability and Impact for Goldman Sachs Asset Management, “Black women are at the center of this investment strategy because we know that capital has the power to affect change, and we know that Black women have the power to transform communities. If we can make our economy work for Black women, we all benefit.”

This is HUGE NEWS for Black women everywhere and we commend Goldman Sachs for this groundbreaking initiative!
