Historically women, particularly Black women, have been active in the right to vote and Civil Rights. Contemporaneously, focusing on the 2020 elections and the Georgia runoff, black women like Stacey Abrams and LaTosha Brown, were hailed as being the saviors of US democracy. In their already marginalized states, what is the cost of that labor for black women? Movements like #blackvotesmatter and the calls on Twitter for Stacey Abrams to be turned into a superhero for Marvel Comics become examples of how cultural practices and expectations mythologize black women.
