Posted By: Kennedy Williams on April 05, 2021 One thing football legend Deion Sanders is going to do is show love to HBCUs in a major way. After becoming head football coach for Jackson State and attracting some of the nation's biggest recruits, Sanders continues to do all he can to support the HBCU community. This time, he has used his connections with top beverage brand PepsiCo to helo spark a partnership and sponsorship between Pepsi and the SWAC. As announced earlier today, PepsiCo Beverages North America (PBNA) is now the official beverage of the SWAC for football and basketball championship games from now through 2023. this three-year deal makes PepsiCo the exclusive carbonated soft drink, water, energy drink, muscle milk, and tea provider of football and basketball championships. PepsiCo. has consistently shown its commitment to supporting HBCUs, investing $400 million over five years to address the issues of inequality and create opportunities for HBCU students and graduates. The company has even gone as far as committing to hire a student-athlete from each participating university upon graduation. Sanders, who has worked with Pepsi numerous times throughout his career, told the Clarion Ledger, "It represents more than just the brand and partnership. It provides opportunities that we want to accomplish certain things with the athletes amongst the SWAC. This helps us get closer to that goal." Sanders will serve as the SWAC ambassador in the deal. We commend PepsiCo for sponsoring HBCU sports and doing what they can to make a difference. And shoutout to Deion for not working to make things better for JSU, but for all HBCUs!
