The Criminal Justice Club Presents Professional Conversations with The Honorable Joyette Holmes

The Criminal Justice Club and the Department of Criminal Justice, College of Behavioral and Social Sciences, is excited to announce the Honorable Joyette Holmes as guest speaker for the April 20th, 2021 Professional Conversations Series. This event provides a forum where students, faculty, staff, and guests can engage with criminal justice professionals, learn from our distinguished guest's experiences, and come away inspired to serve. It is anticipated that Ms. Holmes will engage in a vibrant dialogue with attendees and have an opportunity to discuss the professional journey that has shaped her into the distinguished legal professional she is today. She will also share reflections on the Ahmaud Arbery case, where she served as a prosecutor and gained national attention based on her role. Ms. Holmes's professional rise and accomplishments in criminal justice and law, such as being elected the first African-American and the first woman to serve as a magistrate judge in Cobb County and the first Black woman to become district attorney Cobb County be commended. She attended the University of Georgia, where she earned dual bachelor's degrees in Psychology and Criminal Justice and went on to earn her law degree from the University of Baltimore School of Law in Maryland. She is a proud member of the Cobb County Branch of the NAACP, Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority Incorporated.
