Shaq's Son Shaqir Commits to HBCU Texas Southern!

Posted By: Kennedy Williams on May 03, 2021 We got another one! Shaquir O'Neal, son of NBA Hall of Famer Shaquille O'Neal recently committed to Texas Southern. The three-star shooting guard will be taking his talents to one of the best HBCU basketball programs in the SWAC. The 6'6 athlete made the announcement on Instagram on Friday and has the HBCu sports world buzzing ever since. O'Neal's is yet another son of a superstar to decide that an HBCU is the place for him. Last month, Master P's son, Hercy Miller, announced that he would be attending Tennessee State to play basketball. In an interview with Overtime, O'Neal said that he chose Texas Southern, not only because it felt right, but also because he wanted to "change the narrative" and bring more attention to HBCUs to hopefully encourage more well-known recruits to follow suit. Congratulations to Shaqir and we can't wait to see his success at Texas Southern. And to all the other top recruits in the nation, let's keep this trend going!
