Posted By: Toqeph Smith on May 06, 2021 For Immediate Release Contact: TL@innercitylighthouse.org Platinum Selling R&B Super Group Atlantic Starr and Non-Profit Innercity Lighthouse Center Place a Spotlight on Homelessness Atlantic Starr Headlines Virtual Telethon Supporting Non-Profit Innercity Lighthouse Center, Inc. on Thursday, June 10, 2021 Bronx, NY (May 5, 2021) — Innercity Lighthouse Center, Inc. has announced that acclaimed R&B group Atlantic Starr will be the headliner of the "Raising The Roof" telethon scheduled to stream on various social media platforms on Thursday, June 10th at 8:00pm (EST) . All the proceeds from "Raising The Roof" will be earmarked to build housing and provide funding for vocational training for the underserved community. It is the mission of Innercity Lighthouse to provide the at risk community with resources such as job skill training which leads to sustainable opportunities. "Raising The Roof" will also feature appearances from hip hop icon and radio personality Monie Love, video curator Ralph McDaniels and comedian Wayne Payne and performances from Styletainment The Show. About Atlantic Starr Atlantic Starr formed in 1976 in Greenburgh, NY by three brothers; lead singer/guitarist David Lewis, lead singer/keyboardist Wayne Lewis and trombonist/percussionist Jonathan Lewis. The lineup was filled out by singer Sharon Bryant, trumpeter William Sudderth, saxophonist Damon Rentie (who was replaced by Koran Daniels in 1981), bassist Clifford Archer, drummer Porter Carroll, Jr., and percussionist/flutist Joseph Phillips. They signed with A&M and in 1978 released their self-‐titled debut album containing the funk hit "Stand Up" (which made it to #16 on Billboard's R&B singles chart). In 1981, they released their third album, Radiant featuring the hit single "When Love Calls", establishing them as a supergroup in the R&B market. It was on Radiant that the charismatic Bryant (who was featured on "When Love Calls") really blossomed as a singer and her lead vocals played a major role in the band's success. The band followed with 1982's Brilliance (which contained the number two R&B single "Circles") and 1983's Yours Forever; the latter includes "Touch a Four Leaf Clover," another major hit featuring Bryant. In 1985, the group released “As the Band Turns”— Atlantic Starr's first post-‐Sharon Bryant album and sixth album overall. The album featured the major hit "Secret Lovers," and in 1987, they moved to Warner Bros. to release “All in the Name of Love “which included the smash hit "Always”, which soared to #1 on both the Billboard pop and R&B charts. Atlantic Starr released their last album, Metamorphosis in May 2017.
