Out of 259 Draft Picks, Not a Single One Was From An HBCU... And Deion Sanders Is Speaking Out
|
Posted By: Kennedy Williams on May 10, 2021 NFL Superstar and Jackson State Head Football Coach Deion Sanders is voicing his frustration following the 2021 NFL Draft. According to Total Pro Sports, this year marked the ninth time since 2000 that there have been no players drafted from HBCUs. Sanders took to his IG to express how he felt about the snub.“And we have the Audacity to Hate on one another while our kids are being NEGLECTED & REJECTED. I witnessed a multitude of kids that we played against that were more than qualified to be drafted. My prayers are that This won’t EVER happen again. Get yo knife out my back and fight with me not against me!” Last year, LaChavious Simmons of Tennessee State was the only HBCU athlete drafted. It's clear that there is no lack of talent at our HBCUs, it's just a matter of our athletes getting the recognition and opportunities they deserve.
