Posted By: Kennedy Williams on May 17, 2021 Sports marketing firm Octagon recently announced the launch of a career accelerator program aimed specifically at providing students of Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCU) with prime industry-learning opportunities and first-hand experience working in sports and entertainment. The Octagon HBCU Career Accelerator Program, a two-week virtual intensive experience, will take place from Monday, July 19 through Friday, July 30. The program will welcome 20 HBCU students to Octagon’s Talent + Properties division, and introduce them to the roles, responsibilities, and extensive career opportunities in athlete and talent representation. The students will have the opportunity to shadow agency professionals of all levels and across multiple areas of the business, including Client Management, Communications, Marketing, Sales, Financial Services, Legal, Creative, Content Production, Digital Strategy, and more. As part of the program, students will also participate in a case study challenge, harnessing key insights and learnings from the two weeks, for a chance to win one of five $1,000 scholarships. The Octagon HBCU Career Accelerator Program will culminate with an in-person networking event in Washington, D.C., pending local health and safety regulations, where the scholarship winners will be announced. The program is open to all rising juniors and seniors at HBCU schools. Students are encouraged to apply by Monday, May 31.
