"Freedom, freedom!" was the cry that resounded throughout Leon County on May 20, 1865. FAMU's Office of Communications spoke with Annie Delories Sloan, a descendant of the Rush-Gainous family, whose roots are in the rich soil just off Miccosukee Road on the Welaunee Plantation. Sloan, a retired higher-education administrator, shared reflections about Emancipation Days past and her plans for this year's celebration.
