The Anna V. Waters Scholarship Fund Announces 2021 Scholars

Waters Scholarship Fund Announces 2021 Scholars Baltimore, Maryland, May 21-The Anna V. Waters Scholarship Fund awarded scholarships to fifteen students nationwide for the 2021-2022 academic year. The scholars will be recognized in a virtual event, Spring Virtual Games Night, held on Saturday, June 12, at 7:00 P.M. EST. The event marks the end of the Scholarship Fund’s Virtual Auction, which will begin on Tuesday, June 1. The year’s scholars are Justin Boddie of Windsor Mill, MD, Dayson Brooks of Baltimore, MD, Taylor Owens of Baltimore, MD, Shaianne Turner of Pasadena, MD, Mongai Fankam of Charlotte, NC, Traniya Jordan of Kansas City, KS, Dueane Warren of Hartford, CT, D'Ayona Wester of Reisterstown, MD, Brannon Stanfield of Burlington, NC, Joshua Welch of Marietta, GA, Jason Sarfo of Aurora, CO, William Read of Flint, MI, Alana Raschal of Ellenwood, GA, Elias Aberra of Rogers, MN, and Tameka Johnson of Stamford, TX. This year’s scholars include both new and returning students. The Scholarship Fund’s board encourages students to reapply as they pursue their academic goals. Dayson Brooks, who will receive his third scholarship this year, said, “Like so many others, I have been struggling with the various obstacles and hardships presented by this year; however, receiving this scholarship has offered me some relief. I’m very grateful for this scholarship.” The Anna V. Waters Scholarship was established in 2010 to honor the memory and legacy of Anna V. Waters (1918-2006), who lived, worked and raised her family in Baltimore. The Anna V. Waters Scholarship fund was established for community-oriented African American students completing high school with a "C" average, who demonstrate the potential to be successful in post-secondary study. The scholarship’s board believes all students deserve the opportunity to learn, be acknowledged for their accomplishments, and pursue their goals and dreams. Since the scholarships’ inception in 2010, they have awarded students more than $46,000.
