Talladega College Begins Development of ‘Stadium-Sized’ Multipurpose Facility
|
Posted By: Kennedy Williams on May 25, 2021 The Talladega College Board of Trustees has granted Talladega College President Dr. Billy C. Hawkins approval to develop a stadium-sized, enclosed multipurpose field, which will be used for band practice, soccer practice, and matches, diverse student events, youth soccer, and other activities. On May 24, 2021, the college will begin adding synthetic turf to the field located behind the institution’s new residence hall and the Dr. Billy C. Hawkins Student Activity Center. Lighting and fencing will also be added. “This is a continuation of the transformation of Talladega College,” said Dr. Hawkins. “We recently opened three new facilities; upgraded buildings campus-wide; launched a new graduate program; earned impressive regional and national rankings; and celebrated record-breaking enrollment increases.” “Community members who have driven by campus over the past two and a half years have marveled at how vibrant and attractive the area has become. Adding a state-of-the-art, stadium-sized field will further enhance the campus and elevate the student experience,” he stated. “This will be an asset for the college and the entire community.” The Princeton Review named Talladega one of its 2021 “Best Regional Colleges.” The 2021 U.S. News & World Report Best Colleges Guide ranked Talladega in three categories — National Liberal Arts Colleges, Historically Black Colleges, and Top Performers on Social Mobility. Plexuss Global Rankings named Talladega #2 among the 2021 Best Liberal Arts Colleges in Alabama and #3 in their Best Historically Black College or University in Alabama category. In addition, PR News listed Talladega among its 2021 Education A-List Top 35 institutions for advancing careers in public relations and communication, and Study.com ranked Talladega College’s Criminal Justice Department #14 in the nation on its 2021 Best Bachelor of Criminal Justice Degrees listing.
