Target Partners with NBCUniversal to Host Summer Film Series Celebrating Black Filmmakers

Target Partners with NBCUniversal to Host Summer Film Series Celebrating Black Filmmakers
Posted By: Kennedy Williams on June 01, 2021

Target Corporations recently announced that it's partnering up with NBCUniversal to host a new summer series highlighting and celebrating the three up and coming Black filmmakers and their stories.

According to E!, The Scene in Color Film Series will be hosted by Hollywood Producer and FAMU grad Will Packer and will spotlight filmmakers Addison Wright, Ewarukua Dawson-Amoah, and Kristian King. Thanks to this series, their short films will be shown on major networks like Bravo, USA, and SYFY. Audiences will also get to view bonus content on Peacock, OneApp Rotten Tomatoes, and Fandango Movieclips.

This series was created to "spotlight excellence in entertainment and support a more diverse and inclusive industry."

Addison Wright's film Hiplet: Because We Can tells the story of a group of Chicago dancers who are working to bring Hiplet, a dance style that combines classical ballet with hip hop, to the global.

Ewarukua Dawson-Amoah's film, To the Girl That Looks Like Me, "depicts a Black girl's journey from a sense of otherness to wholeness," while celebrating Black women.

Kristen King's film, Twice As Good, follows the story of a Black high school senior and valedictorian on college decision day, who makes an unexpected decision about her future.

We commend Target and NBCUniversal for hosting this film series and providing such a large platform for up-and-coming Black filmmakers to shine. We can't wait to see these films!
