Hampton University Gifts Financial Assistance to Graduating Seniors
|
Posted By: Kennedy Williams on June 01, 2021 According to WAVY-TV, Hampton University President William R. Harvey announced via letter to graduating students that the school would be providing financial assistance to each graduate in the class of 2020 and 2021. Each grad with federal student loans will receive $500 towards repayment. The payment will go straight from the university to the U.S. Department of Education loan servicer. Students who do not have federal student loans will be reimbursed the $150 they paid for their graduation fee. In the letter, President Harvey also addressed the disappointment many graduates felt after finding out that their graduation ceremony would be virtual: “This past 12 to 18 months have been a challenge to the Hampton faculty, staff, and students. Covid-19 has taken its toll on all aspects of our campus, the nation, and the world. The fact that the most recent virtual Commencement was not up to Hampton’s Standard of Excellence added to all of our concerns. I truly understand what you missed by not having an in-person ceremony.” Fortunately, Hampton graduates are set to be honored during an in-person ceremony on-campus in December.
