Posted By: Kennedy Williams on June 07, 2021 Major fast-food chain, McDonald's recently partnered up with actress La La Anthony to help HBCU students earn half a million dollars in scholarships through its Black & Positively Golden Scholarship Program. The program is being distributed in partnership with the Thurgood Marshall College Fund (TMCF). Anthony, who attended Howard University before her career took off, told Blavity, “As a person who went to an HBCU, I know the importance of education. I know the importance of HBCUs, where we can go to a college and experience things that are all for us, that represent who we are, and are representative of our culture. It’s so important. I’m forever grateful for that and just wish that more people can have that same opportunity to experience what college does for you and how it changes you and prepares you for the real world." McDonald’s Black & Positively Golden Movement continues to support and enhance the education of Black students seeking college degrees. From scholarships to mentorship programs, to virtual content series, the movement has clearly displayed the company’s increased focus on providing opportunities for education and skills in the communities it serves. “I am honored to work alongside McDonald’s in our shared mission to help HBCU students receive the necessary funds to help achieve their dreams of going to college. It’s so important to encourage our youth to dream big and, above all, believe in themselves." La La said in a written statement about the partnership. "I look forward to watching these future leaders of our world and communities shine, achieve their goals, and reach their highest potential.” Applicants must meet the following eligibility requirements (FAFSA not required): 1. Be enrolled full-time as a freshman, sophomore, junior, or senior attending an HBCU during the 2021-2022 academic school year. 2. Have a current cumulative grade point average of 2.7 or higher. 3. Demonstrate leadership abilities and financial need. 4. Be a U.S. citizen or legal permanent resident with a valid permanent resident card or passport stamped I-551. You can head over to www.tmcf.org to apply by June 7 at 11:59 pm EST.
