Shots at the Shops?: President Biden's Latest Initiative to Get More Black Folks Vaccinated

Posted By: Kennedy Williams on June 07, 2021 It looks like President Joe Biden is trying to get a little more creative when it comes to encouraging more Black people to get the COVID-19 vaccine. This time, he's launching the "Shots at the Shop" initiative. Inspired to reach his goal of having at least 70% of all Americans receive at least one vaccination shot by July 4th, President Biden is calling on owners of Black barbershops and hair salons to help those in their community trust the vaccine and encourage them to get the vaccine. According to the Official White House website, "Shots at the Shops" is an initiative that will engage Black-owned barbershops and beauty salons across the country to support local vaccine education and outreach efforts. Throughout the month of June, each participating shop will engage customers with information about the vaccines, display educational materials, and host on-site vaccination events in partnership with local providers. The “Shots at the Shop” initiative will invite participation from across the country, with a particular focus on supporting shops in some of the hardest-hit localities still experiencing significant gaps in vaccination rates. There has been a clear push (seemingly more than any other race) to get more Black people vaccinated. While several million of Black people have already opted to get the vaccine, a large portion of the Black community is still hesitant. What are your thoughts about this new initiative?
