LU Celebrates Juneteenth | Reflecting on Our Legacy

As we celebrate Juneteenth, we reflect on the legacy & rich history of #LangstonUniversity. Founded as a land grant college through the Second Morrill Act of 1890, LU was officially established by House Bill 151 on March 12, 1897. However, the land would have to be purchased by the citizens. They raised the funds and the land was purchased within a year by black settlers determined to provide higher education for their children. It was founded and originally named the Colored Agricultural and Normal University (CANU). It was the strength and tenacity of our community that we have the privilege to walk these hallowed halls. So many incredible people have shaped our legacy.
