Tougaloo College Joins Amazon Web Services Academy to Equip Students with In-Demand Cloud Computing Skills

Tougaloo College Joins Amazon Web Services Academy to Equip Students with In-Demand Cloud Computing Skills
Posted By: Kennedy Williams on July 01, 2021

Tougaloo College and the Tougaloo College Research and Development Foundation (TCRDF) participate in Amazon Web Services (AWS) Academy and will offer
AWS cloud certification training to Tougaloo College students, other students and working individuals seeking to become cloud professionals. The AWS Cloud, an Amazon Web Services program, is the world’s biggest and most widely used cloud platform provides higher education institutions with a ready-to-teach cloud computing curriculum. In addition to being the leading cloud platform worldwide, it is also home to millions of customers across every industry.

Tougaloo College will offer its initial cloud course, AWS Cloud Foundation in July 2021. The courses will encourage students who are training and pursuing technical skill programs to develop a deep understanding of technology and research through cloud computing—allowing them to pursue careers with an industry-recognized AWS Certifications. In the age of digital media and artificial intelligence, private sectors, corporations, and higher education institutions are teaming up to scale the demand of the modern world.
"The Tougaloo College Research & Development Foundation (TCRDF) is pleased, fortunate, and honored to join the AWS Academy family. We see this as an opportunity to prepare students for careers as cloud professionals. We also seek to support working individuals who want to change professions and enter the expanding world of the cloud. Our department looks forward to a long and expanding relationship with AWS,” said Mr.

John Rosenthall, President of the TCRDF. Through the program, Amazon Web Services will work with institutions to integrate cloud technology course work into curricula while also supporting student learning. The College's Research & Development arm went through a strenuous application process to be selected as a higher education institutional partner in the state of Mississippi.

According to Scott McKinley, AWS Academy Global Team Lead “We created AWS Academy to develop the next generation of cloud computing professionals by working collaboratively with higher education institutions and industry partners. Our goal is to build a pipeline of AWS-trained professionals who can help drive innovation as cloud computing becomes the new normal.”

“As businesses increasingly turn to cloud migration to improve elasticity, efficiency, and innovation, Tougaloo College aims to meet their demand. Partnering with Amazon Web Services will ensure that our students are equipped with fundamental cloud concepts to succeed in high-tech careers. We are excited to be a part of this initiative that will prepare our students for the 21st-century workforce and ensure that the college stays current with fast-changing technology shifts,” said Carmen J. Walters, Ph.D., President of Tougaloo College.

Expansions of postsecondary collaborations with Amazon, Google, and other large technology companies, which are becoming more involved in providing alternative credential programs and training for their employees, will prepare students to enter high-demand technology fields.
