Two Time NBA All-Star Reggie Theus Set to Serve As Bethune-Cookman's Next Athletic Director and Basketball Coach
|
Posted By: Kennedy Williams on July 06, 2021 It looks like we have yet another legendary professional athlete heading over to one of our beloved institutions. Word on the street is former NBA star Reggie Theus is set to serve as Bethune-Cookman's next athletic director and men's head basketball coach. According to ESPN, Theus will not only oversee all of the school's sports programs but he is set to replace Ryan Ridder as the leader of the men's basketball coach since Ridder left for the same position at the University of Tennessee-Martin earlier this year. Though he is known for being a two-time NBA-All Star, Theus is no stranger to coaching. He previously served at New Mexico State from 2005-2007 and racked up a 41-23 record and earned one NCAA tournament bid. He also coached at Cal State from 2013-2018, and with the Sacramento Kings and the G League Los Angeles D-Fenders. We love the trend of former professional Black athletes heading to HBCUs to foster the new generation of talent. We look forward to seeing how Theus will improve the B-CU athletics program.
