How to Help High Schoolers Prep for College and Careers

It is a time when many preparations must be made in order to ensure that your future is successful. As a family member to a young adult going through this process, there are a few things that you can encourage them to do in order to ensure their success later in life. Throughout their college years and their career, they will be glad that they did these things in order to succeed. Here are three things that high schoolers can do to prep for their college years and career. SAT Success Colleges use many factors to decide if a student is admitted to their institution or not. One of the most crucial factors that they use is the student score on the SAT standardized test. For this reason it is very important that you encourage your young adult child to study for the SAT as well as they can. The SATs are a very serious test and they should not be taken lightly. You should provide your young adult child with a tutor for their SAT test. You should also make sure that they study at least 2 hours every other day for their SAT. It is a very difficult task and you want to make sure that they ace it. College Applications In conjunction with SAT test results, colleges also often look at the application essay itself. You should provide your young adult child with tutoring in writing so that they can write a thorough essay. You should have your child work with this tutor twice a week in order to strengthen his or her writing skills. You should be sure that the tutor integrates social emotional learning curriculum, or SEL lesson plans, into their tutor curriculum. This will make it so that your child is able to write a better college application essay and be more likely to get into the college they desire. Choose the Right School You should encourage your high schooler to apply to the most prestigious of colleges. You should make sure that he or she is aiming High for the best possible college education that they can get. This is because a better college education will better prepare your high schooler for their career. Professional opportunities are more available to those who have attended prestigious schools then to those who have gone to mediocre colleges. It is absolutely essential that you assist your high schooler and preparing for college and their career life, by helping them in their application for colleges. You should make sure that they have an SAT tutor in order to ace those tests. You should also make sure that they have a writing tutor so that they can complete a sterling college application essay. Lastly, you should make sure that they are applying to the best of schools so that they can use that education as fodder for their future career.
