Personal Growth In Times of Adversity
Posted By: Nicole Rankine on July 13, 2021 In these critical times dealing with the impact of the coronavirus, leaders mustn't miss the opportunity to grow. Leaders develop daily, not in a day. They commit themselves to the process of growth, and over time they reap the rewards of daily investments in their development. During this time of social distancing, we have to remain encouraged and look to find the positive in this situation. Our society has shifted and the mandate to stay home for extended periods has provided us with a greater opportunity to evaluate our lives and more importantly the time to put things into action. The focus of personal growth is to bring more purpose, clarity, and productivity into your life both personally and professionally. Personal growth helps you to increase self-awareness and the skills needed to increase your confidence, communication skills, and leadership abilities, and improve your relationships with others. Personal growth is all about self-improvement. Whether you are in the early stages of establishing your life or you are well into your career but wanting a change, personal growth will help you with whatever goals you have set. My mentor John Maxwell once said, “Growth is the great separator between those who succeed and those who do not”. Do you have a personal growth plan? The key to a life of continual learning and improvement lies in developing a plan for growth and following through with it. I am not talking about your work schedule; how much you do or how you are learning in your workplace. I am talking about how you are developing yourself mentally, emotionally, and spiritually. Growth does not happen by chance. If you want to be sure to grow, you need a plan—something strategic, specific, and scheduled. Motivational speaker Earl Nightingale said, “If a person will spend one hour a day on the same subject for five years, that person will be an expert on that subject.” Isn’t that incredible? It shows how far we can go when we have the discipline to make personal growth our daily practice. Use this time wisely. Ensure that you are better after the storm than when it started.
