Talladega College Receives Anonymous Donation of $250,000

Talladega College Receives Anonymous Donation of $250,000
Posted By: Kennedy Williams on August 23, 2021

Talladega College recently received an anonymous donation of $250,000 in support of student scholarships. With these funds, the College plans to create the ‘Angel Award.’ One hundred students will receive $2,500 scholarships during the 2021-2022 academic year.

According to Dr. Billy C. Hawkins, president of Talladega College, he is extremely grateful for the donation because it will enable the College to remain committed to its foundational principles of providing educational excellence through various equity and access platforms to help each student realize their fullest potential.

“I was contacted about a month ago about the possible anonymous donation,” said Hawkins.

“Talladega College provides premium, individualized, and caring services for all our students and community members.

We are grateful to have been selected to receive such a benevolent endowment that will aid in the continuation of our mission of producing contributing members to our communities,” he added.

Two Talladega College students were recently selected for the White House Initiative on Historically Black Colleges and Universities as 2021 HBCU Scholars. Ms. Ayala Seaborn of Pelham, AL, and Mr. Ashton Hall of Talladega, AL; were recognized as HBCU Scholars for their superior academic achievements, campus and civic involvement, and entrepreneurial spirits. The scholars were selected from an applicant pool of over 200 students who submitted completed applications, including a transcript, resume, essay, and letter of recommendation. They were also required to assess their personal and career aspirations and the needs of their institutions and communities to help determine the best ways the Initiative and its partners might provide support.

“With the perpetual support of our donors, Talladega College will remain the epitome of academic excellence and achievements,” said Hawkins.
