Michael B. Jordan and Serena Williams Team Up to Help Launch HBCU Businesses

Michael B. Jordan and Serena Williams Team Up to Help Launch HBCU Businesses
Posted By: Kennedy Williams on October 20, 2021

Hollywood actor Michael B. Jordan and legendary athlete Serena Williams are teaming up with Invesco QQQ to help HBCU students and alum launch their businesses!

In addition to the highly anticipated inaugural HBCU Hoops Classic Basketball Showcase, the Invesco QQQ Legacy Classic is sponsoring a startup pitch competition. The competition was created through a partnership between Serena Williams' SerenaVentures and MaC Venture Capital and will give HBCU students and alum the opportunity to win up to $1 million towards their business efforts.

"Invesco QQQ and Turner Sports have been amazing partners in helping bring this experience to life,” Jordan said about the showcase.

“I grew up watching basketball games on TNT, so I am confident they will deliver this set of games to a true audience of basketball fans and their families in an exciting way.”

According to the site:

The Legacy Classic HBCU Startup Pitch Competition is about finding and rewarding entrepreneurial excellence while also shedding light on the VC fundraising process. Over the coming weeks, Serena Ventures and MaC Venture Capital will work together to identify the most promising early-stage startup companies founded by current HBCU students or alumni. Ten semi-finalists will be chosen to pitch their startups to a group of top venture capitalists and receive detailed feedback from this experienced group of investors.

Three finalists will be invited to a live pitch in front of an HBCU audience and top partners at Serena Ventures, MaC Venture Capital, Harlem Capital and Cake Ventures. One winner will be rewarded with a $1M investment from the participating VCs during the live Legacy Classic on December 18th.

Interested participants should submit business proposals and investor decks online now through Nov. 18 to qualify.
