The Importance of Planning in Personal Growth

The Importance of Planning in Personal Growth
Posted By: Nicole Rankine on October 31, 2021

In these critical times, you mustn't miss the opportunity to grow. Leaders develop daily, not in a day. They commit themselves to the process of growth, and over time they reap the rewards of daily investments in their development. During this time of social distancing, we have to remain encouraged and look to find the positive in this situation. There has been a Divine pause in life that has provided us with a greater opportunity to evaluate our lives and more importantly this season is giving us the time to put things into action.

The focus of personal growth is to bring more purpose, clarity, and productivity into your life both personally and professionally. Personal growth helps you to increase self-awareness and the skills needed to increase your confidence, communication skills, and leadership abilities, and improve your relationships with others.

Personal growth is all about self-improvement. Whether you are in the early stages of establishing your life or you are well into your career but wanting a change, personal growth will help you with whatever goals you have set. My mentor John Maxwell once said, “Growth is the great separator between those who succeed and those who do not”.

The key to a life of continual learning and improvement lies in developing a plan for growth and following through with it. I am not talking about your work schedule; how much you do or how you are learning in your workplace. I am talking about how you are developing yourself mentally, emotionally, and spiritually.

Growth does not happen by chance. If you want to be sure to grow, you need a plan—something strategic, specific, and scheduled. Motivational speaker Earl Nightingale said, “If a person will spend one hour a day on the same subject for five years, that person will be an expert on that subject.” Isn’t that incredible? It shows how far we can go when we have the discipline to make personal growth our daily practice.

It takes planning. Here are 5 important benefits of self-planning;

Better Prioritization/Planning
One of the major benefits of better self-management is prioritizing.

The Law of Priorities says that “activities do not necessarily mean accomplishment.” In life, there are scheduled jobs weekly and monthly, which means you need to have a sort of itinerary to get it done. Taking the time of execution into consideration, helps you make a better decision on what exactly to start with and when. Prioritizing your duties will automatically make it more organized, easier, and more effective.

Higher Levels Of Productivity
Another great benefit of self-management is you tend to get a lot more done. This is as a result of better planning. You already have a set goal and then, a set of smaller goals to achieve the greater one. Self-management enables you to work in a more organized form, which helps you in getting a lot done. Without time/self-management, you might have heaps of paperwork on your desk always. Getting work done this way would be difficult and ineffective.

Meeting Deadlines
A huge part of goal setting is working with deadlines. You have deadlines with every job, presentation, and paper you have to get done. Self-management will help you out in this aspect as well. It helps you plan on when to get some aspects of a job done exactly. This way, you will work leisurely and finish at the appointed time.

Goal Achievement
As mentioned before, effective self-management, amongst other factors is what sets some people above others. Without effective time management, you might lose a lot of opportunities for goal achievement. With proper time management, you are sure to have more success in goal achievement.

A Better Professional
Proper time management makes you more professional and trustworthy, as a lot of employers will likely want you handling their jobs. Effective time management is necessary for the corporate sector. Apart from the fact that it increases the productivity of an organization, it can also help an individual ascend in his/her career choice.
