Hampton University Senior Woman Administrator Appointed to NCAA Women's Basketball Oversight Committee

Hampton University Senior Woman Administrator Appointed to NCAA Women
Posted By: Kennedy Williams on December 10, 2021

For the second time in as many months, Hampton University’s Senior Woman Administrator, Dr. Paula L Jackson, has been appointed to a national committee. Effective immediately, she is now a member of the NCAA Women’s Basketball Oversight Committee with a term of service continuing through June 30, 2023, and she will be eligible for reappointment at that time.

“We are excited for Dr. Paula Jackson’s appointment to the NCAA Women’s Basketball Oversight Committee. Her background in athletics, along with her exceptional training ensures that she will excel in this position and uphold our Standard of Excellence,” said Hampton University President, Dr. William R. Harvey.”

Jackson is in her eight-year with the Hampton University Department of Athletics, where she serves as the Senior Woman Administrator a role she is very familiar with in her career in collegiate athletics. On the conference level, she serves the Big South Conference as a member of the Hall of Fame Selection Committee, Cultural Conversations Diversity and Inclusion Initiative, the Basketball Tournament Committee, and was recently named Chair of the Senior Woman’s Administrator Council.

Jackson came to Hampton University with extensive employment experience having worked at several institutions over the past 20 years. This includes two stints in the Athletic Directors seat at Savanah State University and Lincoln University in Missouri where she gained the distinction of being the only African American female AD with two national championships in the same year.

“I am extremely excited and honored to be chosen to serve on the Women’s Basketball Oversight Committee,” said Jackson. “This will provide me with yet another opportunity to make a difference in the overall student-athlete experience as a transformational leader in collegiate athletics.”

The Women’s Basketball Oversight Committee will ensure that appropriate oversight of women’s basketball is maintained, will enhance the development and public perception of the sport and make recommendations related to regular-season and postseason women’s basketball. The committee will prioritize enhancement of the student-athlete educational experience (academically and athletically), and in doing so, promote student-athletes personal growth and leadership development.
