The Hampton University Marching Force to Perform in Inaugural Parade of Virginia Governor-Elect Glenn Youngkin

The Hampton University Marching Force to Perform in Inaugural Parade of Virginia Governor-Elect Glenn Youngkin
Posted By: Kennedy Williams on December 16, 2021

Coming off their electric performances in New York City at the 95th Annual Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade and the Barclays Center, the Hampton University Marching Force has been invited to perform in Virginia Governor - Elect Glenn Youngkin’s Inaugural Parade, Saturday January 15, 2022 in Richmond, Va.

“Congratulations to the Hampton University Marching Force for being invited to perform in the Inaugural Parade of Virginia Governor-Elect, Glenn Youngkin. This parade celebrates one of the major pillars of our great democratic government, the peaceful transition of power to the newly-elected leadership,” said Hampton University President Dr. William R. Harvey. “Dr. Jones, his staff, and the elite group of talented, young musicians and dancers who make up The Force continue to demonstrate THE Standard of Excellence. Those in attendance will be in for quite a show!”

The Inaugural Parade will take place following the Swearing-In Ceremony. Reflective of Virginia’s spirit of community, the parade will showcase groups from all corners of the Commonwealth.

Parade participants will march through Capitol Square, and attendees will have a front-row seat to witness the great people that embody the Spirit of Virginia. The Inaugural Parade is open to the public.

“The theme for inauguration weekend celebrates Virginia’s spirit—one linked to a rich history, but an even more exciting future as Virginians come together to make Virginia the best place to live, work, and raise a family,” said Governor-elect Glenn and Suzanne Youngkin.

Performing at the Governor’s Inaugural Parade is the latest accolade for The Marching Force. The band performed in December at the Barclays Center at halftime of the NBA game between the Brooklyn Nets and Orlando Magic. In November, the Marching Force performed in front of the world at the 95th Annual Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade. The Marching Force performed in the 2020 Rome New Year’s Day Parade in Rome, Italy. The Marching Force drumline performed in the 2019 Tournament of Roses Parade in Pasadena, California, prior to the Rose Bowl. In 2018 & 2020, The Marching Force performed at the Honda Battle of the Bands with over 62,000 fans filling the Mercedes-Benz Stadium in Atlanta, Georgia. The Marching Force also performed in President Obama’s Inauguration Parade in 2009.
