Who will help you reach your 2022 goals?

Who will help you reach your 2022 goals?
Posted By: Nicole Rankine on January 04, 2022

Who will help you reach your 2022 goals? Learn how to leverage your network for professional growth.

It’s the new year, and you want and need to grow professionally and personally. Do you believe your contacts can help you reach your 2022 goals?

From someone you met at a conference years ago to a colleague you work with daily, members of your network are the key to professional growth. They know about opportunities, understand your strengths, and want to help you.

Building and expanding these connections is essential for advancement. What simple messages can you send?

A fatal mistake people make is failing to realize that building a strong network is just like any other goal. You need an action plan that outlines who you want to build connections with and how you plan on doing it.

Here’s how to make your Relationship Action Plan:

Make two lists. The first one will be people you’ve met and want to strengthen your relationship with. Examples include colleagues, cool people you’ve met at events, and other acquaintances. The second list will be people you want to meet. For example, leaders at work, members of a community you want to be involved in, or influencers in your niche.

Create an action plan. Take each list and decide on actions you’re going to take to meet or strengthen your relationship with each person. As you do this, strategize the best ways to connect with each individual. For example, if you’re meeting for the first time, focus on making a great first impression. Or, if you already know the person, find ways to talk to them more often by setting up monthly coffee dates.

Update your Relationship Action Plan regularly as you foster connections and develop new goals.

The more deliberate you are in your networking efforts, the faster you’ll build relationships.

How Can You Be Good at Networking?

Learning the networking basics makes it easier to create helpful connections with others. Whether you attend business networking events in person or online, following these networking tips can increase your confidence:

1. Talk to new people at networking events.
2. Attend new events.
3. Create authentic relationships.
4. Have an elevator speech ready.
5. Be confident.
6. Stay connected.
7. Help others in your network.
8. Revisit older connections.
9. Find new connections online.
10. Form your own networking group.
