Assistant Professor Positions in Biology at Appstate

Posted By: Suzanna Brauer on January 12, 2022 The Department of Biology at Appalachian State University invites applications for three tenure-track positions at the rank of Assistant Professor to begin in August 2022. 1) We seek a Vertebrate Physiologist with research expertise in endocrinology, metabolism, or a related field. Applications from candidates who use a comparative or integrative approach are also welcomed. Teaching responsibilities will include an advanced course in the candidate’s area of expertise, an upper-division human systems physiology course, and participation in the Introductory Biology sequence for majors. 2) We seek a broadly-trained Molecular Biologist with specialization in developmental biology, gene regulation, and/or cell signaling. Teaching responsibilities will include an advanced course in the candidate’s area of expertise, molecular biology, and participation in the Introductory Biology sequence for majors. 3) We seek a Terrestrial Community Ecologist with expertise in insects or other invertebrates. Research specialization is open, but we encourage applicants with expertise in global change ecology, plant- animal interactions, invasive species, and/or disease ecology. Teaching responsibilities will include an advanced course in the candidate’s area of expertise, introductory zoology, and participation in the Introductory Biology sequence for majors. Essential Duties and Responsibilities: These positions are full-time, 9-month, tenure-track positions. Each candidate must be committed to excellence in research, teaching, and service at a comprehensive university. A Ph.D. and postdoctoral experience are required. The successful candidates are expected to develop a research program that is competitive for external funding and involves undergraduate and master's students. The physical demands of these positions are typical for a professional position at the university.
