New strategy for Voting Rights boycott: NCAA transfer portal
|
Posted By: Thomas Manning on January 19, 2022 I am a retired Social Worker from the Los Angeles, California area. I am writing you because I need your assistance in a plan I am attempting to develop to address the voting crisis in Senate. I have greatly appreciated your appearances on MSNBC and the powerful responses and commentary you offer. So need your expertise! Like many African Americans I have been deeply concerned over the direction of country and especially the lack of progress the Senate has made on voting rights bills. In thinking about what more can our community do to confront this crisis. I have this action we could engage in nationwide. The new “Montgomery Boycott” based on the original actions. Presently, it seems like many of the discussions taking place on the major networks are leaving us without a solution. Since the Senate is broken we are taking actions in a number of areas. I say we should embrace what 52 White Americans(Scott honorary), 50 White Republicans and two White Democrats, have done. They have created a constitutional crises with respect to our voting rights. We should not do engage in the behavior that followers of Trump did and storm the Capitol. Rather, we should storm away from the Capitol. The language we should be tough and direct. Such as we were trained like an elephant. We have grown-up tied down with the spike of Washington. No more 52 White Americans can not hold down a self aware elephant. 52 White Americans can not hold millions of African Americans, Asians, Latinos, and enlighten White Americans any longer! Our first action should be in the world of sports. We have a unique opportunity, God given, to use our elite young African Americans athletics to change our nation once again. Presently the NCAA has set up a program, The Portal, that allows athletes to transfer without penalty to whatever school of their choosing. We ask all of our top athletes to transfer from any state that does not support voting rights and had voted in laws to restrict voting. We ask them to transfer to HBCU schools. We are not asking them to throw away their careers as the NFL originally came calling to HBCU to recruit the top talent in the country. We start with the SEC, Alabama, Georgia, Texas the richest conference in college football. I think Nick Saban is already aware of a possible problem as he has spoken with his good friend the Senator from Kentucky to support voting rights. Nevertheless, we have to take charge of destiny. These powerhouse football program do not want to return to the all-White teams of the 1950’s and early 1960’s. You may recall that the legendary coach Bear Bryant of Alabama changed the SEC when his all-White team lost to USC. The young man that helped defeat his time was Sam Cunningham- from Alabama. Coach Bear Bryant said there will never be another young man from Alabama leaving the state to play football. Sports have all ways been a major contributor in changing our nation I think the time has to use it more skillfully this time. I am asking you to put this idea before the right leaders in our community. Thank you. If you enjoyed this article, Join HBCU CONNECT today for similar content and opportunities via email! |
