HBCU Alum Evolves College Organization Serving 300+ K-12 Students into a Youth Education Foundation Serving Children of Colo
Posted By: Teylor Parks on January 25, 2022

ATLANTA, Jan. 11, 2022 – After noticing educational disparities amongst minority youth in Tallahassee, Florida, Teylor Parks – a student at Florida A&M University at the time – launched Dreamers at FAMU Youth Volunteer Organization. Through the program, Parks planned, led, and funded STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Art, and Mathematics) activities with over 300+ K-12 students within the north Florida area. This year, she is officially expanding those efforts through the launch of Achieve in Color: an education foundation providing microgrants for classroom and community projects serving youth of color.

The overwhelming success of Dreamers at FAMU, which included an increase in minority student engagement and the launch of other youth volunteer organizations, exists as the inspiration for Achieve in Color. For her efforts, Parks was nominated for the Florida capital’s Top 20 Under 40 Golden A.C.E. Award.

“The work we completed with Dreamers encouraged Black and Brown students to strive for excellence and follow their aspirations,” Parks states. “Achieve in Color will support other leaders that want to do the same for the youth in their community.”

Throughout January and February 2022, Parks is crowdfunding for Achieve in Color and accepting applications for the first round of microgrants. To donate, apply for a microgrant, and learn more about the organization, visit this link.

About Achieve in Color: In an effort to resolve the achievement gap in US schools, Achieve in Color intends to inspire and financially support those seeking to pour into minority children through classroom and community projects. Born from the legacy of Dreamers at FAMU Youth Volunteer Organization, Achieve in Color provides microgrants to teachers, volunteers, organizations, and community leaders.
