Getty Images Awards HBCUs with Grants to Digitize Archival Photos
|
Posted By: Kennedy Williams on January 25, 2022 Getty Images is making it easier for our beloved institutions to preserve their rich history and archival documents. Thanks to a new grant, Claflin University, Jackson State, North Carolina Central University, and Prairie View A&M University will receive a $500,000 grant to digitize their archival photographic libraries. Through this initiative, Getty is assembling what they are calling The Historically Black college & university COllection that will include over 200,000 archival photos that document the history of HBCUs around the country. The schools participating in the program will retain all copyrights for their photos and all revenue generated from the photos will feed back into the institutions. We love to see initiatives like this because it is so important that we preserve the history of our HBCUs so we never forget where we came from as we continue to move forward.
